Anders Reyes, better known by his stage name “Silk”, brings his unique blend of jazz fusion, R&B, Soul and Alternative to his strings.
Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Silk’s love for music began in a 2016 high school music class, where he first picked up the bass guitar. Striking that E string too hard might have been his first mistake, but it was also the start of an unstoppable journey.
Unlike his earlier experiences with classical instruments like the violin and cello, discovering the history and evolution of music opened his mind to the depth of sound and storytelling, solidifying his passion for the craft.
Silk’s playing style is shaped by his admiration for Tomo Fujita, a respected Berklee College of Music instructor whose lessons—though learned from YouTube—taught him the importance of patience, self-discipline, and self-compassion in mastering his instrument.
His musical taste is diverse, spanning Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Donny Hathaway, Puma Blue, and Tatsuro Yamashita, influences that add depth to his sound.
Despite early setbacks—like a 2021 open-mic solo he considers his worst performance. He used those moments to build confidence, refine his craft, and push himself as a performer.
For Silk, music isn’t just about playing. It is about connecting, growing, and leaving a lasting impact.
